Older brick columns move. The footing cracks, the column tilts toward the street, and the mortar joints open up so water gets in and works the top courses loose. If the footing is still solid we take the column back to good brick, reset it plumb, and repoint it. If the footing is cracked we replace it. We also swap rusted inserts and broken doors without disturbing the brickwork, and cut a new address block when the numbers are gone. A made-to-order address block adds about 7 to 10 days.
